Glaucoma is a disease of the eye in which the pressure within the eye, called the intraocular pressure (IOP) is increased. Glaucoma is caused by inadequate drainage of aqueous fluid. It is classified as primary or secondary glaucoma. High intraocular pressure causes damage to occur in the retina and the optic nerve. Blindness can occur very quickly unless the increased IOP is reduced. Analgesics to control the pain and medications that decrease fluid production and promote drainage are often prescribed to treat glaucoma. The prognosis depends to a degree upon the underlying cause of the glaucoma.

Globoid-cell leukodystrophy, also called Krabbe disease or lysosomal storage disease, is a rare disease caused by a mutation in a dog’s DNA. It results in abnormal processing and storage of an enzyme critical for producing myelin, the substance that coats and protects the nerves throughout the brain and spinal cord. Clinical signs emerge at an early age, including tremors, muscle weakness, and loss of control of the limbs. Most dogs must be euthanized due to their neuromuscular decline about two to six months after the onset of clinical signs.

Glucosamine + chondroitin combination is a nutritional supplement used to treat osteoarthritis in dogs, cats, miniature pigs, and other animals, as well as feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) in cats. Glucosamine acts as a mild anti-inflammatory and is used by the joints to make cartilage components and by the urinary tract for protection. Chondroitin inhibits destruction and promotes production of cartilage components.

Golden Retrievers are medium-to-large sporting dogs known for a friendly temperament, intelligence, and strong work ethic. They were originally bred for retrieving game on land and in water. These dogs are highly social and enjoy working closely with people, which makes them well suited for families, service work, and active homes. They need regular exercise and interaction to stay balanced.

Devotees of the Gordon Setter say that they're highly intelligent and that they're as good at being faithful companions as they are at finding birds for the hunter. Plenty of daily, regular exercise brings out the best in this sweet-natured (but sometimes bossy) dog, and keeps him from becoming too rowdy.

Grapes, raisins, and Zante currants can cause kidney failure in dogs. There is no well-established toxic dose for these fruits and some dogs may have individual sensitivities, causing poisoning to occur even with a small amount. Dogs who receive prompt treatment before symptoms develop are more likely to have a good prognosis following exposure.

Grapiprant is given by mouth in the form of a chewable tablet to treat pain and inflammation in dogs. Do not use this medication in pets that are allergic to it, or in pets concurrently using corticosteroids or other NSAIDs. If a negative reaction occurs, call your veterinary office.
